Essence is the very fabric of our Soul. When we experience our Essence we have the sense of wholeness. In contrast, the lack of contact with our Essence gives us a sense that we have lost our way home, that we have lost our paradise. We are born full of Essence and free of any conditioning. As time passes and childhood programming settles into our system, we gradually lose the connection to our Essence. We then live in a paradoxical state of existence: we are Essence and yet we do not know it.

 The Lataif are the first manifestations of Essence. They are the texture, the material from which the Soul is made of, our Essential qualities. There are five major Lataif and several minor ones. 

The Grey Essence supports us to be in our body and feel that we exist. It is the “Essential clay,” which brings a sense of smoothness of the earth, the goodness of living in this body and on this planet.

The quality of the Grey is extremely soothing. It removes tensions that are stored in our tissues, until our body softens and relaxes. In this way, it transforms the entire body and provides the basic Essential elements that it truly needs. The body of tension becomes the temple of our spirit. 

The Grey is like the clay of creation, the most basic, earthy material from which we are molded. This Essence heals the split between the mind and the body. It supports us to “get out of our head,” to descend back into our body and befriend the physical universe, to feel that we belong here.
